How to Use Higgsfield Katana in Claude

A step-by-step guide to Higgsfield Katana: connect Higgsfield to Claude, pick a reference edit, add up to five photos, generate and refine.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

Higgsfield Katana is a video editing skill that runs inside Claude. It takes a reference edit and up to five photos, then rebuilds that edit with your own people, products or clothing. Higgsfield released it on October 8, 2026. This guide walks through the whole process, from connecting Higgsfield to Claude to fixing individual shots, using only what Higgsfield's own Katana guide and changelog say.

What you need before you start

  • An active Higgsfield subscription. Katana runs on Higgsfield models and spends credits from your existing Higgsfield plan. There is no separate MCP billing.
  • A Claude account where you can add a custom connector. Katana works in claude.ai and Claude Desktop through the Higgsfield connector. Higgsfield's guide does not name a specific Claude plan.
  • No API key. You authorize the connector by signing in to Higgsfield.
  • A reference edit you are allowed to use. Higgsfield asks you to use a reference you own or have permission to use — or one of the presets in the Katana library.

Step 1: Connect Higgsfield to Claude

  1. Open claude.ai or Claude Desktop and go to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Higgsfield and paste the MCP server URL https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp.
  4. Click Connect and sign in to your Higgsfield account to authorize it.
  5. Back in Claude, check that Higgsfield is in your list of active connectors.

The Katana page on higgsfield.ai also has an Install Higgsfield in Claude button that leads to the same setup.

Step 2: Pick a reference edit

The reference decides the shot structure, pacing and overall look of the result. You have two options:

  • A preset from the Katana library. Presets are grouped into Personalized edits, Style transfer and Motion transfer, and come from Higgsfield and from the community. Browse the Katana case gallery on this site to see what each type looks like before you choose.
  • Your own edit. Upload it as a file through the Higgsfield window in the chat. A direct link to a media file also works. Links to Instagram or TikTok profiles are not accepted.

In Claude you can open the preset catalog with /katana, or run one preset directly with /katana/<preset-name>. You can also skip commands and just ask, for example "make an edit of my product" — Katana starts from a plain request.

Step 3: Add your photos and instructions

Add up to five photos of the characters, products or clothing that should appear in the edit. If you want something kept or changed — a logo, a colour, which person goes in which shot — say it in the optional instructions.

On the Katana page the same three fields appear as a form: a reference video, your characters, and optional instructions, followed by Send & Generate in Claude.

Step 4: Check the cost and generate

Before each generation Claude shows a card with the exact credit cost. Higgsfield has not published a fixed price per edit, so this card is the only reliable number. Confirm it and Katana generates the edit.

The result appears in a chat widget with a preview and a download button, and it is saved to your Higgsfield Assets. In Higgsfield's test the output was an MP4 with the same duration, aspect ratio and frame rate as the reference; these can't be set separately in Claude. If you need a vertical video, start from a vertical reference.

Step 5: Refine the edit

Corrections are plain chat messages: ask Claude to change a shot, swap a photo or adjust a detail. In Higgsfield's test only the affected shots were regenerated. Every correction that needs a new generation can cost more credits, and Claude shows the cost card again.

Publishing your own Katana preset

If you made an edit structure other people could reuse, you can share it from the Katana page with Publish preset. A community preset needs:

  1. A 3 to 30 second video for the motion.
  2. Up to 40 images.
  3. A prompt that mentions those images with @.

Shared presets go live immediately and can be removed after reports.

Katana and Genjutsu

Genjutsu is another Higgsfield skill that runs in the same Claude chat and shares the same Assets. Genjutsu does motion transfer and object swap on a video; Katana rebuilds a whole edit from a reference. You can use both in one conversation.

How to use Higgsfield Katana well: tips from the cases

  • Match the format first. Because the output follows the reference's duration and aspect ratio, pick a 9:16 reference such as Outfit Check for Reels or TikTok, and a 16:9 one for YouTube.
  • Compare two cases built on the same structure. Face Edit 1 and Face Edit 2 in the gallery share one edit with different characters — a quick way to see what changes and what stays.
  • Use clear, well-lit photos of the subject you want swapped in, and say in the instructions which photo belongs in which shot when it matters.

Common problems

  • Higgsfield doesn't show up in Claude. Check Settings → Connectors: the custom connector must use https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp, and you must finish the Higgsfield sign-in so it appears in your active connectors.
  • Your TikTok or Instagram link is rejected. Profile links aren't accepted. Download the clip you have the rights to and upload it as a file, or use a direct link to the media file.
  • The result has the wrong shape or length. Katana follows the reference. Swap in a reference with the aspect ratio and duration you need instead of asking Claude to resize it.
  • The cost is higher than you expected. Every correction that needs a new generation is charged again. Read the cost card Claude shows before you confirm each one.
